Tutorial Task 2
The production tools that our group will be using are iMovie and GarageBand on Mac. iMovie is a video editing software application which allows users to edit their own movies. GarageBand is a software application that allows users to create music, voice recordings and podcasts.
The device that we will be using to film out short video is a 12megapixel camera that also records. To add the video or shots that you have recorded, you simply drag the shot that you want into iMovie. With iMovie you can edit your film, such as cropping a shot and adding a news production theme. To add voice recordings and music to your video, you simply upload your finished video to GarageBand and edit the sounds, as you like.
When uploading your own video to the Internet, you have to think of copyright.
An example of a problem that you may have with copyright over elements that you did not create is: If you were to use an image or song in your video that is owned by someone else and upload that video on the internet, they could sew you.
When uploading a video to the Internet, you have to be careful of defamation. Defamation is: “any intentional false communication, either written or spoken, that harms a person's reputation; decreases the respect, regard, or confidence in which a person is held; or induces disparaging, hostile, or disagreeable opinions or feelings against a person”(The free Dictionary 2011).
According to a survey by DLA Piper, “Only 5 per cent of Internet users said they were clear on their legal responsibilities.” "The combination of confusion and complacency about the relationship between the law and (user-generated content) puts users at risk as they come under increasing scrutiny online," said Duncan Calow, a digital media partner (Edgecliffe-Johnson, A 2008).
